In
Guğmundur Tyrfingsson's fishing trips or fishing packages
you have an excellent opportunity to experience the heart of Iceland
and the highlands while fishing. The
stillness in the wild is like nowhere else and the fishing
spots are terrific and diverse. And most of all, adventure
is guaranteed....
Guğmundur Tyrfingsson began operations in 1962 with their
first coach, which was a Dodge Weapon 1952 that was bought
as an ambulance from the US base in Iceland. Guğmundur
rebuilt the vehicle and began using it for corporate- and
school driving. In the beginning he started with corporate
tours, but it was the mountain tours he liked the best. He
began driving the school bus for Gaulverjabær district,
which the company is still driving today. He
sold the Dodge Weapon after twelve years. But a few years
ago it was bought back, and is now gracing the entrance of
the headquarters in Selfoss.
Guğmundur Tyrfingsson Ltd was formally started in 1969 and
in the same year the first coach built by the staff was
driving down the street. Guğmundur Laugdal Jónsson, who is a
trained car builder, joined the group as well. Since the
beginning he has been the head builder of the company and
supervised the blueprints and design with Guğmundur
Tyrfingsson.
In
1971, Guğmundur Tyrfingsson built a Nissen hut by Nónhóli in
Selfoss. Fourteen coaches were built there, but the building
was also used for various other projects.
In
1993 the company moved to a new building, Fossnes C in
Selfoss. At the same time a daughter company, Tyrfingsson
Ltd, was founded and located there. Tyrfingsson Ltd sees to
the construction and maintenance of the company's coaches.
There
are currently around 20 employees who are working for these
two companies, but the number of employees is seasonal and
is much more during the summer.
Guğmundur Tyrfingsson Ltd can offer you almost 40 new and
good coaches. Since the beginning all effort has been made
to offer good service, new coaches and a reasonable price.
The success of the company, the owners feel, is primarily
due to the excellent staff, but also our customers, old and
new, who have been dealing with the company for many years,
even from the beginning.
Today
Guğmundur Tyrfingsson
has coaches stationed in Reykjavik, Selfoss and spread wide
over the South Iceland.
Tour
organization has been part of the company's operations since
the beginning, but has increased quite a bit over the last
few years. Today we can organize all sorts of tours, for a
longer or shorter time, both for Icelanders and foreigners.
